The British National Corpus (BNC) was originally created by Oxford University press in the 1980s – early 1990s, and it contains 100 million words of text texts from a wide range of genres (e.g. spoken, fiction, magazines, newspapers, and academic).

The BNC is related to many other corpora of English that we have created, which offer unparalleled insight into variation in English.

The Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) is the only large, genre-balanced corpus of American English. COCA is probably the most widely-used corpus of English, and it is related to many other corpora of English that we have created, which offer unparalleled insight into variation in English.

The corpus contains more than one billion words of text (25+ million words each year 1990-2019) from eight genres: spoken, fiction, popular magazines, newspapers, academic texts, and (with the update in March 2020): TV and Movies subtitles, blogs, and other web pages.

Putonghua Learning

The website provides the Mandarin level test introduction, test process, mock exam papers, erhua word table, word noun control table, 60 reading works, and speaking topics.

This is a self-learning package for Putonghua developed by CLE of the EdUHK. It provides the Pinyin simulation exercises, oral practices, listening practices together with the mock exam papers in these three aspects so that learners can prepare themselves for the Putonghua Language Proficiency Test.
